Steven’s War by Val Wood

Steven’s War is totally exclusive to The Hull People’s Memorial. It was written as a fundraiser for the memorial and the content is rather exclusive in style. It begins by fictionally presenting factual events with all of the street and personal details changed. As we approach the destruction of Hull City Centre the bug slips almost entirely into a factual account of the loss of the Prudential Buildings and the people inside. The final pages provide the reader with a bombing diary hinting at the story of the almost total devastation of Kingston upon Hull, which suffered more carnage than anywhere else in the United Kingdom.
